Sonnet 18

Trying as best they can to act composed,
My secrets choose the way they'll be revealed
And when. The draft of what will be disclosed
Emerges through old vices they'd repealed,
Just waiting for discovery, not lost,
And I still know the lure of their embrace,
Such pleasures as will justify the cost:
My way, my edge, my voice, my time, my place.
I write it out, the lines that it will take.
(That document itself I'll leave behind
Once it's served its purpose.) What will break
The skin will also serve to crack the word
To make what shows the hardest parts to find.
My mission's set. I will not be deterred.
