Sonnet 29

Posted in quatorzain by maggie on 2007/02/20

The half of what your touch has helped me learn
would fill the hearts of dozens such as I,
so what might I submit you in return
or speak to you in barter for reply?

The kindness of your thoughts I've been allowed
would pierce the darkest dreams the sleeper fears,
so how might I perform to do you proud
or pay to you my debt in such arrears?

When yesterday has moved off to its book
the fire you lit will still quite strongly glow,
new lives to give for each instant I took.

I can't be near your equal at my best,
but you are worth my best, that much you know:
I'll help as best I can, as you request.
