Sonnet 34

Posted in quatorzain by maggie on 2007/02/23

Tomorrow picks up where today leaves off
as though it were a poem's repeton
collecting water through my gutter's trough
to spread my memories across the lawn.

So too each word you sent to me! I take
each one like medication, as prescribed:
Repeat this daily to ease your chronic ache -
some coke, some weed, a fifth of gin imbibed.

I love you still. My rituals keep you close.
I hear your voice again, again, again,
again, again - I want a double dose!

Tomorrow I will love you more the same,
each day of longings passing through its chain
to give myself the spirit you became.
